The Steamboat Floating Classroom
Now is the time to plan a group trip on the REAL steamboat S.P.L.A.S.H. (acronym for Student Participation in Learning Aquatic Science and History)!
S.P.L.A.S.H. takes you back in time to the river’s rich history and water ecology --from George Washington’s crossing the Delaware to the wildlife that inhabit the water and shores--from plankton to herons! Once a vibrant waterway for commerce, the river now supplies drinking water for 17,000,000 and is a recreational gem for boaters, kayakers, fishermen, photographers, and artists of all ages. S.P.LA.S.H.
- seats 49 passengers on covered and open decks
- is Coast Guard certified with Coast Guard licensed Captain and crew
- is complete with marine safety equipment
- welcomes all to visit the engine area to learn first hand about this unique steam-powered vessel
- boards in Lambertville NJ or New Hope PA
- educational programs can be tailored for school groups, scouts, or bring your own lessons
- is available for special-occasion such as; fund raisers, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, or just a good time with friends!

The steamboat SPLASH offers a unique, exciting, safe, educational field trip on the Delaware River at Lambertville NJ. with any of the following interactive activities:
- Biology and Environmental Education. We teach clean-water ecology with a watershed demonstration, macro-invertebrate identification and bird spotting with discussion of evolution.
- Physics and Engineering. See a real steam engine in operation. Discuss water safety, principles of floatation, energy conversion and electricity with interactive demonstrations.
- American History. George Washington's use of the river for his first successful battle, role-playing as colony representatives considering confederation vs. federation and foundations of democracy. Abraham Lincoln’s use of the canals and the industrial revolution can be emphasized.
