Winter Festival

Lambertville-New Hope Winter Festival 2009

A two-village, four-day celebration scheduled for Jan. 21-25, 2009. Below are some of the highlights. For all events and their times and locations, go to www.WinterFestival.net.

Family ActivitIES:

The Snowfolk competition not only gives kids a chance to express their creativity and win a prize, but also march in the parade. Snowfolk Competion: $20 for wood cutout and contest entry. Workshop 2 p.m. Jan. 24 at Deer Park, or complete at home to walk in parade.

Saturday’s parade is a mile-long, one-hour celebration of community and music, with local dignitaries, high school bands, floats, community organizations, a bag-piper, two Mummer string bands, and, new this year, Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps – a festive and fun group of musicians and dancers. The Winter Festival Parade begins at noon at the New Hope-Solebury High School on Bridge Street. The parade will move down Ferry Street, to Main Street, and continues across the bridge to Lambertville.

Saturday, Jan. 24 also offers Children’s Theater and Music at St. John’s School in Lambertville. Check online for details of all events. A master ice carver will transform a 300-pound block of ice into a work of art live at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 at Lambertville Station. Lambertville Library hosts Kid’s Movie Matinee Program 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24.

New this year, Roxey Ballet Repertory will perform scenes at their 243 N. Union St., Lambertville, studio 4 to 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24.

CHILI COOK-OFF

The 1 to 4 p.m. event takes place at Memorable Affairs – Occasions at Union Square, New Hope. Vying for bragging rights this year are Lambertville Station and Baker’s Treat in Lambertville, N.J.; Cock & Bull in Lahaska, Pa.; Jamie Hollander Gourmet Foods, Havana, Marsha Brown’s, Occasions, The Logan Inn, Villa Vito Restorante and Triumph Brewing Company in New Hope, Pa.; and Stockton Inn in Stockton, N.J.

Tickets are limited and the $45 tasting donation includes a commemorative pint glass and beer supplied by River Horse Brewery. Under 21 or no alcohol tickets are $35. For additional information or to purchase tickets, visit www.winterfestival.net. No tickets are sold at the door.

Judging this year’s competition are Chef Earl Arrowood Jr. of the Culinary Arts Program at Bucks County Community College; Gabe Bond, general manager at Porterhouse Restaurant & Brew Pub; Chef Scott “Chopper” Swieringa of Choppers All American Burgers; Janet McLaughlin of the Mercer County Redevelopment Authority; Geri Delevich, executive producer for a documentary on New Hope and Lambertville; Chef Linda Jacobs, owner of Soup to Nuts Caterers; and Chef Dave Merken of Just Foods.

Doug Robinson and Eric Aceto will perform swing, jazz and samba tunes for the wildly popular event.

Twin Rivertown Projects, Inc. is 501(c) non-profit corporation of hard-working and fun-loving New Hope, Pa., and Lambertville, N.J., business owners, residents and other good-spirited volunteers. The group has two goals in producing Winter Festival: to provide a healthy, invigorating cold-weather experience in the two river town communities, and to demonstrate that the multi-faceted communities along the Delaware River offer as exciting and diverse activities during the winter months as any other time of year.  Winter Festival primarily benefits the Lambertville, New Hope and Solebury Township parks and recreation departments. Proceeds also help local schools, police departments, and fire and rescue companies.
