______________ MONHEGAN MADNESS
Being on Monhegan is a little like camping. You have to take everything with you since there is only one food store on the island - less stocked than a typical WaWa - and dining out is very expensive. Everything has to be brought over by boat. Cell phones don't work most of the time. Internet access is spotty. The electricity (provided by a generator on the island) can go out at any time and candlelight dining is often an necessity rather than a romantic option. There are no cars on the island except the few golf carts and mini-trucks used by the lodging establishments to transport visitor luggage and supplies to various parts of the island. You can't even ride a bike because the paths are rocky and uneven. Walking and hiking is the only way to get around. I am in a really good mood. I am in the process of packing to go to Maine again. I will be spending a week on Monhegan Island, Maine. Monhegan is a small one and a half mile long island 12 miles off the coast of Maine - east of Rockland.
