Cornerstone’s Newest Center Gets a Name and a Director.
Cornerstone Health and Fitness has recently named their newest center.
The TreeHouse, scheduled to open this fall is located at 419 South York Road.
The property, built in the 1970s by an Austrian craftsman, sits back behind the fitness center in the lush surroundings of true Bucks County nature.
“After spending a lot of time soaking in the surroundings, it’s amazing how isolated it is - The TreeHouse kept coming to us as the perfect name, over and over again.” explains Jim Bishop, owner of Cornerstone. “Like a tree house, this location is serene, hidden – almost magical. The house is a treasure; warm, unique, with lots of windows bringing nature inside. So, our intention is to make it that “special place” that’s always there when you need it and makes you feel better the minute you arrive. It has so much potential”
The TreeHouse will include meditative arts such as Yoga, Pilates, and Tai Chi as well as nutrition, life coaching, relationship seminars, and other healthy lifestyle interests. Jim explains “We’re creating a lounge and a meeting room in addition to the studio rooms so that we can bring in programs and sessions that will appeal to all different interests. The outside space will also be used in time. There’s a great deck off the yoga studio and a meditation area under the trees. What we can do with the gardens is limitless!”
Bob Lonsdale, a yoga instructor at Cornerstone, Doylestown, since 2001, has recently been named the Director of The TreeHouse.
Bob comes to Cornerstone with an intense passion for yoga and a love of teaching.
His teaching began in 2000, after completing the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Certification program in Philadelphia. Realizing his passion for learning the yoga practice, Bob completed the Kripalu Teacher Training program in the Berkshires; a deeply inspiring and transformational time for him. Leaving his full time corporate job soon after, Bob has intensely studied other forms of yoga, including a full year Anusara Yoga Immersion. He has also become certified in Mat and Reformer Pilates, and continues to seek out ways to expand his knowledge and help his students improve their practice and their lives.
Bob has become a source of inspiration for many and a sought after yoga instructor. His passion is in helping people to realize their potential through the body, the mind and the heart.
“ Everyone at Cornerstone is so happy that Bob has taken this position.” explains Jim. “We have always been aware of his amazing presence in his classes while teaching at our Yoga Studio in Doylestown. He brings such energy, newness and creativity. Bob will help to make The TreeHouse the very special place that we intend it to be.”
Bob’s main intention is to create programs, classes and specialty studies, as well as a warm and inviting atmosphere, that will inspire everyone – from the novice to the guru - to experience the wholeness of meditative arts.

3RD ANNUAL EXHIBIT BY MONHEGAN ARTIST JERRY CABLE
Port CLyde, Maine — The Ocean House Gallery at Rose Cottage overlooking the harbor is pleased
to present the work of Monhegan artist Jerry Cable. The opening reception is scheduled for Friday,
July 11 from 5-7:30pm. The show titled “Port Clyde, Monhegan and Beyond” is Mr. Cable’s third
solo show at the Ocean House Gallery and will run through Aug. 2.
In the tradition of the great Monhegan artists such as Edward Willis Redfield (1869-1965) & Robert
Henri (1865-1929), Jerry Cable continues to capture a spirit of the American landscape reflected in
its architectural legacy in rural America along with its seafaring history along the coast of Maine.
Jerry Cable's vision of the American landscape transcends the scene and presents the viewer a
unique perspective where farms, barns, lobster boats & dories stand like monuments of architectural
folk art. This vision comes from a life lived on the farm and a deep respect of his surroundings
coming from that authentic experience. His paintings are luminous and alive with details that reveal
a truth and understanding of his subjects. His unique way of oil painting combines a tranquility of
light often associated with the great American luminist painters of the 19th century while his use of
Impressionism brings a unique personality to each of his works.
From the rolling hillsides of rural New Jersey and Pennsylvania to midwest farmscapes and coastal
Maine, abandoned structures and quiet landscapes provide a serene meditative respite that invites
the viewer to step inside.
Jerry Cable, whose painting career began more than forty years ago on a small farm in Northeastern
Ohio, has spent more than a decade of summers painting on Monhegan Island where he has a studio
in July and August. The remainder of the year he works from his studio in a centuries old stone
barn

Also: “Best Dessert Contest”
Featuring:Unveiling of “Mountain John” portrait by Dot Bunn |
New Hope PA, June 24, 2008 - Gallery owner Howard Cooperman will be unveiling a new oil painting by Dot Bunn entitled “Mountain John”. It’s a portrait of a local entertainer commonly seen at John & Peters.
Howard Cooperman, owner of Howard Gallery of Fine Art, will be unveiling an oil painting which is a portrait of a welll known entertainer to New Hope at John & Peters. The 24” x 36” painting portrays “Mountain John” sitting at a table dining in a local restaurant.
Dot and her husband Tom were at the restaurant and they couldn’t help but be attracted to this burley gentleman enjoying a well cooked country meal. Striking up a conversation with him, Dot asked permission to photograph him for a painting. “Mountain John”, was all to happy to accommodate her request. During their brief conversation, the artist learned that “Mountain John” entertains regularly at John and Peter’s on Main Street in New Hope. He is known as “America's Last Real Troubadour.
John is a robust baritone, equal parts opera singer and country singer. His musical acumen is shaped by both a college music degree and an ongoing 33 year tour in every state of the Continental U.S. He is both a cultured impresario and road warrior.
John is one of an ever-shrinking number of musicians who rightfully can claim the title 'Troubadour'. With a flowing white beard, his omnipresent cowboy hat pulled low and a demeanor that takes nonchalance to new lengths, there is no denying he lives up to his billing.
For John, the musical journey began when his Mother gave him a guitar at age 11. He began playing in bars and coffeehouses around his native Bartlesville, Oklahoma and by the time he was in high school, he had been playing folk and country music at fairs and festivals throughout the Midwest.
John earned a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Pittsburgh State University in Pittsburgh, Kansas, where he studied opera. Continuing his education was not the option for John, instead he used his baritone voice and guitar as a ticket to see the world. He played his way to California and landed a contract when he arrived in Los Angeles. This is where he was
nicknamed, 'Mountain John', by masters of ceremonies who were unable to remember or pronounce his last name. John recalls, that the big break, that was to have made him a star, came when he was selected for a spot on the first Gong Show from over 700 other cowboy singers and won.
Mountain John traveled the country freely, writing songs and poetry that he performed in every town he traveled through. The relentless performing combined with his impeccable vocal technique resulted in a well-crafted, highly entertaining stage show. John's performances stitches together generous doses of folk, blues, imaginative storytelling, anecdotes and tales.
July 12, is also Second Saturdays in New Hope which is a celebration of the arts. NEW WELL FOR THE MAASAI OF KENYA
The Rotary Club of Doylestown is pleased to announce that it has received notice from Rotary International that a grant has been approved for a project to help the Maasai people of Kenya. The water project, situated in the Rift Valley of Kenya west of Nairobi, involves the drilling of a well estimated at 180 meters (600 feet) deep in the village of Ereteti.
The region suffers from an acute water shortage. Water in swamps and seasonal rivers is not clean water and non-potable. Drinking this water, the only available, has led to rise of water born diseases such as typhoid and dysentery. In addition, these waters have become breeding places for mosquito that lead to malaria.
The beneficiaries are 2000 people at Ereteti including two primary schools whose teachers and students will have clean water which will result in the reduction of water born diseases.
This project, costing $30,000, is made possible by the generosity of an anonymous member of the Doylestown Community, The Doylestown Rotary Club and matching funds from The Rotary Foundation International.

ART AND THE RIVER FLOWS INTO MICHENER ART MUSEUM IN NEW HOPE THIS SUMMER
NEW HOPE, PA (June 2, 2008) – The James A. Michener Art Museum in New Hope celebrates the iconic influence of Bucks County's waterways, the Delaware River and Delaware Canal, as a powerful pull on regional landscape artists in Art and the River on view June 13 through October 5, 2008. This exhibition of over 50 works, on view in the Della Penna Gallery at the Museum's New Hope location, features historic and contemporary paintings, drawings and photographs. Artists included in Art and the River range from classic Pennsylvania Impressionist painters such as William L. Lathrop, Harry Leith-Ross, Daniel Garber, Edward Redfield and George Sotter through the New Hope Modernist era of the 1930s including C. F. Ramsay, BJO Nordfeldt and RAD Miller, to the diverse group of artists who are continuing the visual tradition in Bucks County today, such as Randl Bye, Diane Burko and Paul Matthews.
"Since early times, the gorgeous vistas along the Delaware River and Canal have lured artists to their shores for subject matter," says Erika Jaeger-Smith, Associate Curator of Exhibitions at the Museum. "These waterways have been celebrated in countless paintings, drawings and photographs, no matter what the prevailing style of art happened to be in a given decade or century. Part of my concept is to underscore this enduring subject in the present day."
Organized by the Michener Art Museum, Art and the River features works from important institutional and private collections, from as far away as Houston, Texas to the notable collections at the Reading Public Museum, the Philip and Muriel Berman Museum of Art at Ursinus College and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, which generously loaned two works by renowned Pennsylvania Impressionist painter Daniel Garber. Garber's paintings, Quarry and Lowry's Hill are works rarely seen in Bucks County, though they feature local subject matter.
Art and the River, which features the work of nearly 40 artists, showcases various artistic approaches and interpretations of waterways. Edward Redfield (1869-1965), for instance, whose work Early Spring (1920) is included in the exhibition, painted en plein air in an impressionist style. Situating himself behind three dominant trees in the forefront, while looking down onto the river and the homes that line the banks, he likely created this painting of the Delaware River in Point Pleasant, Pennsylvania near his home in Center Bridge.
Abstract artist Alan Goldstein (b.1938) chose to represent the Delaware River with organic shapes and an indistinguishable viewpoint. Goldstein has said the subject of his art is "the nature of nature" and he gets to the core of the river's life form in Upriver From Lumberville Walking Bridge II (ca. 1981) by rendering it in blocks of blues, shades of browns and rusts, and in a conceptual manner.
In conjunction with this exhibition, the Museum offers a special lecture, "The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor and State Heritage Area" presented by Elissa G. Thorne, Vice President of Heritage Programs with the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor. Currently, her work with the Landmark Towns of Bucks County focuses on boosting the economies of Delaware River communities through public and private partnerships while preserving and enhancing heritage, natural and cultural resources. This lecture takes place Thursday, July 10 at 2:00 p.m., at Occasions adjacent to the Museum. The lecture is free with Museum admission; advance registration is required by calling (215) 340-9800.
This exhibition is sponsored by Jim's of Lambertville Fine Art Gallery. Additional funding is provided by Lou & Carol Della Penna, Marsha Brown Creole Kitchen at the Olde Stone Church, Nouveau Magazine, Park Place Antique Jewelry and Lambertville House.
This exhibition is also made possible through annual support provided by The Pew Charitable Trusts, the Bucks County Commissioners and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, with additional funding by a grant from the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor through the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources Heritage Area Program.
The James A. Michener Art Museum collects, preserves, interprets and exhibits American art, with a focus on art of the Bucks County region. The museum presents changing exhibitions that explore a variety of artistic expressions, and offers a diverse program of educational activities that seeks to develop a lifelong involvement in the arts as well as nurture a wide range of audiences. We also seek to educate our community about nationally and internationally known Bucks County artists of all creative disciplines. The James A. Michener Art Museum in New Hope is located at 500 Union Square Drive, New Hope, PA 18938. Gallery hrs: Tuesday-Friday. 11am-5pm, Sat. (Memorial Day through Labor Day) 11 am-6pm; Sun. 11am-5pm. SOMETHING OUTSIDE:
The Possible Worlds of
Paul Graubard and André Gomes
[May 17 to July 6, 2008]
ARTIST RECEPTION
SATURDAY, MAY 17, 2008
6:00 TO 9:00 PM
Something Outside, the new show opening Saturday, May 17 at New Hope Sidetracks Art Gallery is an invitation to the possible worlds envisioned by artists Paul Graubard and André Gomes.
Outside is something of an insider’s word. Used in the contemporary art world, Outsider Art can refer to artwork as diverse as the colorful refrigerator finger painting of children, the imaginative and sometimes eerie drawings of mental patients and prisoners, the bold and challenging religious statements of visionaries, the symbolic paintings of the autistic, or the secretive fully formed alternative worlds of reclusive storytellers. In each case there is an untutored quality to the artwork, as well as a degree of obsession in the artist’s envisioning and creative energy. Some Outsider Artists remain almost totally unknown, while others have become so well known that they and their artworks are now as Inside and as valuable in the art marketplace as many another contemporary artist. Two annual national art shows, the Outsider Art Fair in Manhattan and the Intuit Show in Chicago, are responsible for much of this discovery and appreciation.
The first Sidetracks artist, Paul Graubard of Lenox Massachusetts, is a retired psychologist who discovered the art world and his own talent when in his 60’s as a way out of paralyzing grief brought on by the death of his daughter. As a self-taught artist with somewhat zany themes and free-wheeling images, he has begun to make a name as an Outsider Artist—exhibiting for the last few years at the two art shows mentioned above. Paul’s hallmarks include ripped paper and acrylic collages, and a strong contrasting color sense.. Personal themes in his always optimistic world include graceful dancing, circus acts, cold arctic nights, Judaica, Bible stories (currently Samson and Delilah), and Paul Bunyan (imagine him eating a stack of pancakes in the snow!) Many individual collages and paintings combine several of his themes all at once.
Paul introduces himself as a New Jersey native who spent his early school years reading, doodling and playing hooky, dropping out in the 10th grade to hitchhike around the country. After later going to college, marrying and settling down with his family in New York City, he worked as a teacher, professor and psychologist—always finding work that gave him the autonomy he craved. He believes that stumbling on art in his later years saved his well-being is not his life. His wife, Karen Chase, is a poet with several published volumes to her credit, including her most recent (2008) publication, Bear.
His work has been featured at such venues as Church Street Gallery and Tanglewood Music Festival, both in Lenox, MA; The Outsiders in Cornwall Bridge, CT; Galerie Bonheur in St Louis, MO; and The Zetter Collection in Carlsbad, CA. The American Visionary Art Museum of Baltimore, MD, has his work both on current display and in its permanent collection.
Paul will be joined for Something Outside by André Gomes from Hillside, New Jersey, who will be showing his carvings in wood and stone in his first-ever gallery exhibition. André, originally from Belo Horizonte in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, was influenced in his carving by his father before him, but remains self-taught with an intricate obsessive style all his own. He creates miniature worlds of wonder where all lines intersect, filled with repetitive patterns of cityscapes, steps and ladders, highlighted here and there with small precious or semi-precious gems and miniature carved figures. His cityscape influences include the Brazilian colonial city of Ouro Preto, neighboring Belo Horizonte.
Materials for André’s carvings for the most part include found wood, sand clay and smooth clay, and small garden stones. His works over the past few months have begun to focus on new cloisonné-like paintings on board, outlined by ordinary staples and colored with artist-mixed paints. The works to be shown at Sidetracks span an 8-year period of intense artistic activity.
Something Outside, continuing through July 6at Sidetracks Gallery, invites everyone inside these two creative “possible and positive” worlds.
Gallery Artists whose work will be also represented during this exhibition include Jane Henry, Rachel Friedberg, Norma Holt, Selina Trieff, Yvonne Love, Marc Deasy, Leah K. Tomaino, Elizabeth Miller McCue, Betty Jacobsen, Jefferson Hayman, Charles DeVigne, Janet Bishop, McWillie Chambers, Diane Koss and vintage works from the estate of Jack Rosen.
New Hope Sidetracks Art Gallery is located in the New Hope Arts Center, 2A Stockton Avenue, where Bridge Street and the New Hope-Ivyland Railroad intersect, neighboring El Taco Loco Restaurant.

The first Artspeak Evening will be held Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 7:00-8:00pm and will feature artists Yvonne Love and Gabrielle Russomagno who collaborated on the installation Soledad Solitude. The artists will speak about the interpretation and introduction of life experiences into art and the process of working collaboratively.
Love explains, “My work explores narrative moments of memory. For me the narrative is defined by material – whether the piece is a collage, sculpture or installation. Basic shapes become vessels for these memories, all interrelated through the expressive qualities of and relationships between the materials– broken eggshells, piercing pins, coated resins, suffocating enclosures.
.
Love’s work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibition and small group shows in fine galleries throughout the region and she currently teaches at Penn State Abington. She is also co-founder of Ravens Run Arts and Artist in Residence, both unique arts educational programs for young people.
Her collaborator Russomagno has been a member of Germantown Academy’s arts faculty since 1990. She holds a bachelor’s degree in American studies and studio art from Smith College and an M.F.A. degree in photography from Yale University. She is a guest lecturer and visiting artist at the Rhode Island School of Design, Creative Arts Workshop, Carmarthen Art Institute in Wales, and other art and educational institutions.
Her work is widely exhibited nationally and is included in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, Biblioteque Nationale, and the University of New Mexico Museum. Ms. Russomagno recently held the Herbert and Irma Barness Chair in the Fine and Performing Arts and is included in Who’s Who in American Teachers.
The May 31, 2008 Artspeak will feature metalworker Chris Darway who crafts meticulously engineered jewelry and constructions. Growing up with the car culture of New Jersey in the 1950's and 1960's, he was always fascinated by the inner workings of machines. His father was a mechanical engineer and his grandfather, whose tools he still uses, was a machinist.
Darway studied industrial design at the Philadelphia College of Art but ended up in metals, where the focus was on small-scale works of jewelry. Using primarily matte-surfaced sterling silver, stainless steel and occasionally gold, Darway casts and fabricates carefully designed elements. In his necklaces and, bracelets, rings and earrings, he often combines his metal components with industrial materials such as rubber gaskets, aircraft tubing and even Velcro creating highly unique pieces that are beautiful with a definite nod to industrial minimalism.
His larger constructions share the same unique aesthetic and often conjure up remnants of another time or a functional item that redefines the sense of beauty of one might find in discarded elements of society.
The
Sculpture New Hope indoor exhibition is open Thursday through Sunday from 12noon - 5PM, Saturday til 8PM through June 14, 2008. For more information about special events such as Gallery Talks and Informal Concerts during the exhibition contact NHArts at

The Hidden Gardens of Lambertville is a self-guided tour, which enables visitors to explore gardens at their own pace. Proceeds from the event are used to fund various community outreach projects as well as Kalmia’s annual scholarship award given to a local female high school senior.
This year marks the 12th anniversary of the popular tour, which showcases a variety of garden types ranging from eclectic to formal. Whatever the style, the gardens selected will delight the senses and inspire seasoned and beginner gardeners alike.
Like last year, members of Lambertville's Artists' Gallery will be positioning themselves in several of our "Hidden Gardens" painting for the day. "We have great fun talking to all the people on tour, the whole day is very rewarding", says gallery member Florence Moonan. Later in the year these same paintings will go up for sale at the Artists' Galley with 50% of the proceeds going to the Kalmia Club's community efforts. The Artists' Gallery is an eighteen-member artist run cooperative gallery. "We're not just another art gallery", says the artist co-op President, J. Stacy Rogers, "Artists own this gallery and as a group and for a good community cause or organization we have the ability to combine our talent to make a meaningful contribution".
The Kalmia Club is the oldest continuously running women’s club in the state of New Jersey and is a member of the state and general Federation of Women’s Clubs. The club’s theme is “Unity in Diversity.” The club flower is the Kalmia Latifolia.
